Cortona Doors

Walking through the narrow streets of various towns in Italy takes you back in time. The doors and entrances that you walk past have impressive first impressions because of their scale and their age. It is the stories that these entrances hold that really capture me. So many questions came to mind while I painted this series. Ho many times have they been opened? Who lived there centuries ago? How many strangers knocked on door? Is this the original door, and if it is, did they build it to last over a hundred years?
