I cant describe why New York City is such an inspirational starting point for so many of my paintings. Maybe it's the size of the buildings, the extreme perspectives and angles I get when I photograph them. Maybe it's my love of the anonymity I have while I'm there, or my love for repetitive shapes (like windows and signs) that inspires me, but nonetheless, here's another urban street scene with New York as it's highlight. I used deep wine reds and browns to create a rich and heavy wall of texture. There's a lot of blue in this piece to help balance all the warm tones, mind you, as painting is all about balance.
