As this piece was painted, it evolved into a complex and highly rendered painting. I kept going back in and layering more colour and more darkness until it "popped" enough. I'm happy with the shadows and depth I captured in this piece. There's a complexity to it with the mixture of leaves, pine needles and rocks that carries your eye up and through the composition.
